Into The Sky could chart direct path to 2000 Guineas

Jim Boyle’s stable star Into The Sky could bypass Newbury’s Greenham Stakes later this month and head straight to Newmarket for the Betfred 2000 Guineas.

The Starman colt bolted up by seven and a half lengths when going off at 80-1 in a Newbury maiden last August before finding only Words Of Truth too strong in the Group Two Mill Reef Stakes at the same venue a month later.

He has not been seen since, but with the Greenham this year taking place only two weeks before the first colts’ Classic of the season, Boyle is open to travelling to the Rowley Mile on May 2 without a prep run.

“I’m very happy with him, he’s working well and has done well over the winter – he’s strengthened up nicely,” said the South Hatch handler, who has also entered Into The Sky for the Irish Guineas.

“We’re very excited for the season ahead. He certainly proved that first run was no flash in the pan and he’s got a good bit of quality about him. We are very excited to see what he can do this year.

“We certainly wouldn’t have made those (Guineas) entries lightly and we’re just toying with the route we go down.

“There’s only two weeks between the Greenham and English Guineas, which is really tight. Initially the Greenham was our early-season target, but we are just toying with the idea of potentially going straight to the English Guineas.

“It’s definitely on our radar (no prep run), plans are fluid still, but that’s certainly something that we are considering.”
